Roof treatment

How to treat your roof? If you don't maintain your roof regularly, you will notice that it is no longer what it used to be!

Is your roof covered in moss? Can you no longer tell the colour of your tiles?

Yes, but here's the thing: how do you go about it? How do you maintain your roof?

It's not easy to choose, especially as roof maintenance and cleaning must be done properly to avoid damaging your roof.

Over time, you have surely noticed moss appearing on your roof. Besides moss, you may also have seen black streaks caused by soot or smoke if you use wood heating.

And unfortunately, the rain will be of no help in cleaning your roof.

But fortunately, to remedy all this, there are solutions and treatments that will restore your roof to its full glory.

Which treatment to choose for your roof?

There are different treatments for roofs. Depending on the problem, the solution needs to be adapted.

So there are special treatments for:

  • Moss and lichen
  • Preventing regrowth
  • Waterproofing
  • Water repellency

In damp areas, your roof is likely to be covered with moss, but also with ferns or lichen that give your roof a greenish colour.

If nothing is done to clean them, your tiles could be pierced by the roots and weaken the watertightness of your roof: you will get leaks on rainy days.

When moss is already present, you must clean your roof and apply an anti-moss treatment.

But if you don't want it to come back, you will need to anticipate with an antifungal treatment.

With age, your tiles become porous, so you will need to opt for a water-repellent treatment. It is a transparent product that creates a waterproof film.

How to treat your roof?

Step 1: cleaning

Before starting, you must make sure your roof is clean. It is useful and important to use a product that removes the moss to clear away all dirt (branches, leaves, dust).

Step 2: treatment

You will need to spray an anti-moss product over the whole roof and rinse it off.

Good to know: some anti-moss products do not require rinsing. We advise you, as we do ourselves, to use organic and eco-friendly products.

The water-repellent solution is also a spray-on product for treating the roof.

When should you treat your roof?

Your roof should be treated at the same time as it is cleaned, that is, from early spring to late autumn.

How much does a roof cleaning cost?

The cost of cleaning a roof depends on the products used and the techniques combined. The roof surface area must also be taken into account.
